WINTER 2015 CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

Please keep in mind...

  • Register in the Children's Room or call 845-268-7700 during library hours.

  • All programs are free, and priority is given to residents of the Nyack School District. Group size is limited. Residents outside of the Nyack School District will be placed on a waiting list and contacted only if there is room in the program.

  • Please notify us of cancellations in order to allow more children to attend our programs.

  • Programs are designed for the intended age group.

  • Please make alternate arrangements for other children for infant and toddler programs.

  • Required registration begins at least one week before each program.

    WINTER 2015 FAMILY PROGRAMS

    1000 Books Before Kindergarten: This program promotes reading to newborns, infants, toddlers, and children up to Kindergarten. The goal is to have read 1000 books before your child starts Kindergarten. Stop by the Children’s Room any time after January 1st to sign up, get more information, and your first reading record.

    February is Black History Month: Come and take a walk through history in the Children’s Room to celebrate the accomplishments of the Civil Rights Movement.

    Teddy Bear Stories
    Select Thursdays at 6pm
    Ages 2 and up with adult(s).
    You can wear your PJs and bring your favorite snuggly friend for this night-time Family Storytime. Fun for the whole family!

    School Closing Crafts
    Select dates from 2-6pm
    Ages 3 and up with adult(s).
    Drop in during the following school closing days to create a cool craft – a different craft for each day.

    Open Playtime
    Jan. 5-May 18
    Mondays from 10am-1pm
    Ages 5 and under. It’s play time in the Storytime Room, no matter what the weather brings! A great chance to meet other local families while you enjoy books, games, toys and puzzles with your little one(s).

    Fitness Fun
    Select Tuesdays at 10:30am
    For children ages 2-5.
    Join us for active fun focused on getting everyone playing and moving!

    Pre-K Snowy Stories
    Mondays at 4:15pm OR Wednesdays at 10:30am (choose one).
    Weekly storytimes for ages 3 – Kindergarten.
    Great books, games, movement and songs. Parents welcome!
    Mondays from Jan. 26-Mar. 16 (no program 2/16) OR Wednesdays from Jan. 21-Mar. 18 (no program 2/18). Reg. begins 1/14 for both.

    Music Together
    Tuesdays at 10:30am
    Ages 5 and under w/adult.
    Join Catherine Moon Rubin as she teaches the popular “Music Together” program, which builds on children’s natural enthusiasm for music and movement. Children’s musicality will blossom and flourish in this environment of live music making!
    Tuesdays, March 10-24. Reg. starts 3/3.

    Pet Show!
    Wednesday, Mar. 25 at 10:30am.
    Ages 18 months-5 years w/adult.
    Bring your favorite stuffed friend for some pet-fashion fun and games! We'll have a pet parade and prizes for our stuffed furry friends! Please make alternate arrangements for other children.

    LEGOs™ at the Library

    Grades 2-6.
    Focusing on a different theme each month, we’ll have fun building with friends to show off our imaginations, and then share our creation’s story with the group. LEGOs™ will be displayed temporarily in the library.

    Book Club: The Runaway Rice Cake *

    Come help solve a Presidential History Mystery, with fascinating clues throughout the Children’s Room, in a quest sure to lead to laughs and discovery!

    Super Structures with Mad Science**
    Tuesday, Mar. 3 at 4:15pm
    Grades 1-6.
    Just how are they building the new Tappan Zee Bridge? Join Mad Science to look at the fascinating science of architecture and engineering. Learn about structures like the Tappan Zee Bridge and the Great Wall of China, the forces behind them, and shapes and materials that strengthen them.

    Book Club: Who Were the Beatles? *
    Monday, March 23 at 4:15pm
    Grades 2-6
    Join us as we discuss the Beatles and their impact on music, as presented in this book by Geoff Edgers. We’ll listen to their songs, watch performances, and make a cool guitar pick to take home.
    Reg. starts 2/23.
