How do I get a Library Card for my child?
If you live in Valley Cottage, bring your child to the Circulation Desk with 2 forms of the parent’s/legal guardian’s ID, with a current Valley Cottage address. The 2 forms of ID must include one valid photo ID, such as a NYS Driver’s License or passport.
Parents/guardians are responsible for all fines incurred on a minor child’s library account up to the age of 18.
Cards will be mailed home within the week, but you can take 2 items out on the day you sign up for the card.
A Valley Cottage Library Card enables users, including children, equal access to materials and services available throughout the library. It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to monitor a minor’s borrowing and viewing activities.

| Who can use my child's card?
A child's library card may only be used when the child is present. It is not required that the parent or legal guardian be present to use the card. Thus, other people acting as caretakers for the child may bring the child and the card to the libary to check out materials.

| How old does my child need to be to get a library card?
At Valley Cottage Library, we do not have a minimum age restriction for acquiring a card.
