A warm welcome awaits you in the Children’s Room of the Valley Cottage Library. You’ll find a wonderful collection of materials for children of all ages. We also have a charming collection of Early Literacy appropriate toys and activites for little ones, including a puppet theater, puzzles, blocks, and a doll house. For older children, the Children's Room has several computers, study areas, board games, and activities.

A child's library experience can begin in infancy by sharing familiar Mother Goose rhymes and little board books. Preschoolers and early elementary school children enjoy the world of stories and illustration as they choose from a vast array of picture books. Older children explore further worlds of fiction and non-fiction for pleasure as well as school assignments.

The Children’s Services Staff is dedicated to helping children and their families make full use of our materials and services.

A vast array of developmentally appropriate books, audio visual and other materials are here to be borrowed and enjoyed. We hope you’ll use your library often. It’s the best bargain in town!

Reference: Our Children's Department Reference Staff consists of 2 full time librarians and 5 part-time library assistants.

Computer stations : We have 8 computers with Internet Access and Microsoft Office tools, 4 computers with CD-ROM games only, and one Internet station for adults in the children's room.

Assistance with Inter-library loan: borrow material from any of the 47 public libraries in Rockland, Orange, Sullivan and part of Ulster Counties!

Reader’s advisory : We have great Booklists, Bibliographies, and Read-a-like lists.

Music CD-ROMs/Music Cassettes; Books-on-CDs/ Books-on-Tape: Loan period is 14 days, maximum of 5 per person.
