Nyack School District students in need of extra credit MUST sign up for the SRP by then.

Nyack School District note taking forms are due to the library by Saturday, September 1.

Summer Reading Program

How it Works



You will receive a reading log when you sign up for Summer Reading. The first time you bring your log to the library, you will get a Chipotle coupon!

-Keep track of the books, magazines, newspapers, and whatever else you read, and how long it takes you to read them.
-For every two hours you read you will receive one scratch off ticket.
-For every book you review you will receive one scratch off ticket.
-Every scratch off ticket is either an instant winner, or an entry for one of our grand prizes:

$50 Amazon Gift Card
Bag of Awesome Books
Mystery Box

Instant winner prizes include:
candy, books, gum, the box of randomness, and movie tickets

Battle of the Books

Join our library's Battle of the Books team!

Battle of the Books (BOTB) is an RCLS wide competition. Teens form libraries in Rockland, Orange, and Sullivan Counties compete in this trivia competition. All participants read the same 8 books, and then answer trivia questions on those books. The Battle will take place in September. To prepare, we will have weekly meetings where we discuss the books and practice answering trivia questions.

A Year of Star Wars: Watch The Empore Strikes Back

September 12 at 6:00 pm



We are continuing our year long Star Wars celebration at VCL! Throughout the year will talk about a different Star Wars books and watch an episode of The Clone Wars show, and watch the original trilogy.

Come by, hang out, and watch Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. There will be trivia and prizes after the movie!

September 17 at 6:00 pm




Sign up for the VCL Pokken tournament, and see who is a Pokemon master. Prizes for the top 3 players, and pizza for all.

Anime Club

September 20, October 10, November 14, and December 5 at 7:00 pm



Watch anime shows, eat Japanese snacks, and enjoy the library’s anime collection. This program is a great for big anime fans, and those who are just getting into it.

SAT/ACT Prep: Grammar No One Ever Taught You

September 26 at 7:00 pm



SAT/ACT coach Trevor Hochman will help you tackle the SAT and ACT. In this program, he will help you with:

Usage, mechanics, and rhetorical skills tested throughout the SAT Writing and ACT English tests but seldom touched on in school, with examples, practice, and recommendations of resources for additional study. Topics include:

• common errors featured on the SAT and ACT
• sentence structure, independent and dependent clauses, compound and complex sentences
• punctuation: commas, semicolons, colons, dashes

Banned Books T-Shirts

Did you know that Harry Potter is a banned book? What about To Kill a Mockingbird? And The Giving Tree? Come to our banned books t-shirt night to design a shirt that shows off your favorite banned book, and your right to read it.

SAT/ACT Prep: Math for Giant Killers

October 3 at 7:00 pm



SAT/ACT coach Trevor Hochman will help you tackle the SAT and ACT. In this program, he will help you with:

Guidance on tackling the hardest SAT/ACT math problems, including multi-part problems, puzzles, and advanced math topics; for strong math students aiming for perfect SAT and/or ACT math scores. Topics include:
quadratic equations: vertex form, graphing, completing the square, discriminant
• higher-degree polynomials: division, factoring, graphing
• algebraic formulation and reformulation/comparison problems
• matrices, vectors, statistics

Joshua Marber, MS.Ed., will advise teens and their families on the college admission process. He will provide helpful information that will get you started on the right road now or give you helpful advice to continue in the process. In this program, participants will learn:
When to start searching for colleges & visiting them

How to fill out the application & write a good essay

If they should take the SAT or the ACT

How to get financial aid & scholarships

Teen Story Time

October 18 at 6:00 pm



Embrace your inner 5-year-old at teen story time! Listen to a story, and then help out the children’s librarians by preparing crafts for upcoming story times. This program is for teens in grades 6-12 and is worth one hour of community service. A small snack will be provided.
