Teen Services - Programs for Teens
Community Service Opportunity!

Help your neighbors in need keep warm and toasty! If you like to knit, you can earn community service hours. Donate your knitted or crocheted scarves or hats to the library to receive 10 hours per item. Donations are accepted October through March.

Drop your donations off with Joanna Goldfarb at the library. Open to Nyack School District students.

ValCon Artist, Vendor, and Panel Applications are open

Do you want to be a part of ValCon: Episode IV?



ValCon: Episode IV will be held on July 14, 2018 from 10:00-4:00.

We’re looking for artists, vendors, and panelists for our Comic/Anime Convention.

Application must be received by Monday, April 30, 2018. Space is limited. Submission of an application does not guarantee a space at ValCon. Applicants will be notified of space availability no later than Friday, May 25.

Artists may request use of a 30” x 72.” table, or bring their own. Vendors must provide their own table. Tables may not be more than 30” x 72.” Artists will be able to enter the building at 9:00 am to set up their tables.

Teen Story Time

Thursdays, February 22 and March 22 @ 6:00



Embrace your inner 5 year old at teen story time!
Gather around to listen to a story, then help out the children’s librarians by preparing crafts for upcoming story times. This program is for teens in grades 6-12, and is worth one hour of community service.

A small snack will be provided.

Homework Hangout

Didn’t get all of your homework done? No problem. Spend the day in the library finishing up any projects you may have neglected over the break. There will be a librarian in the Teen Corner to help answer your questions!
Guitar for Beginners

Mondays, March 5 and 19 @ 7:00



Burr Johnson will show many music styles in which guitar plays an important role. Pick up one of the guitars provided (or bring your own) and learn the basics of holding the guitar, playing melodies, strumming chords and using the pick. Each student is given individual attention as Burr moves everyone along at their own individual pace.

Anime Club

A Year of Star Wars: A New Hope

March 21 at 6:00- Watch Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

You are invited to join us on a year long exploration of a galaxy far away…



Over the course of 2018, we will have a monthly teen discussion of Star Wars books, with breaks to watch the original trilogy.

Bonus: After each book discussion, we will watch an episode of Star Wars: Rebels.

At the end of the year, we will have a PARTY with trivia and prizes! Teens must attend at least one book discussion to watch a movie, and have attended a minimum of 3 programs to be invited to the party.

Friendship Bracelets

Wednesdays April 4 @ 6:00 pm



Learn the basics knots needed to make a friendship bracelet. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can pick out beads, try different stitches, and make bracelets, necklaces, and more for your friends.

Nintendo Switch Mario Kart Tournament

Thursday, April 5 @ 2:00pm



It’s Spring Break, and that means there’s plenty of time to play video games! Enter the VCL Mario Kart 8 Delux tournament, and be ready to race on our Nintendo Switch. This will be a double elimination tournament, and the top three players will receive prizes. Snacks will be served.

Teen Yoga

Mondays, April 9 and 23, May 7 and 21, and June 4



Teen Yoga has returned! Valerie Vendrame will continue our popular program through the spring. Aside from the benefits of stretching and strengthening muscles, yoga provides teens with healthy coping strategies to help deal with unique stressors: insecurity about changing bodies, pressure to fit in, and challenging emotions. All done in a supportive environment that will keep you smiling and having fun!
